          History of the Lhasa Apso

To put it simply "I wasn't there!!". So I will explain what I have researched and aim to put it simple as possible. It is claimed Lhasa apsos originated in Tibet as far back as 2800 years ago, that's 800 BC. Their purpose back then was basically as a warning alarm and from my short experience things haven't changed too much at all. They have a keen sense of hearing and coupled with the ability to distinguish between someone they know and someone that is new, although Charlie missed out on this cause he still watches me walk to the front door and barks!!
Tibet is often called "the roof of the world" with the Himalayas on one side and the mountain ranges of the Tibetan plateau to the other. It can get really cold and the air is thin due to the altitude. The Lhasa Apso has a fairly good rib cage to help with the thin air and the big coat to help with the cold.

Lhasa Apsos mainly were owned by the buddhist monks and gaurded the temples. There were Tibetan Mastiffs outside (google a picture of one, they are huge!!) and on the off chance you made it past "the beast" with enough limbs to keep momentum up then the Lhasa Apsos would bark there heads off letting there masters know someone was there.
